Brother: Anthony D P Wells-Cole

Cricket: Great grandson of Gervas Frederic Wells-Cole, captain of Lincolnshire and later Chairman of the County Committee.

Biography: Twice British Orienteering Champion (1969, 1970). The Michael Wells-Cole Memorial Trophy is awarded to the British orienteer judged to have given the best performance at the World Championships.

World Orienteering Championships:

  • 1968 Linköping, Sweden - 35th Individual, 9th Team Relay.
  • 1970 Eisenach, East Germany - 18th Individual and highest finishing British orienteer. 9th Team Relay.
  • 1972 Stare Splavy, Czechoslovakia - 52nd Individual.
